Vangel Naumovski was born in 1924 in the city of Ohrid in Macedonia (then part of Yugoslavia). He was interested in art from a young age, but it did not work because he left school after third grade and performed a number of tasks, a gardener, farmer, and butcher. After remaining in the army, he enrolled in the Skopje Art School for one year in 1946. Vangel then worked in an engraving workshop in Ohrid for thirteen years. During this time, he initially painted in the style of folklore myths, which led to his successor as a naive artist.

In the early 1960s, Vangel’s painting became surrealism. He exhibited for the first time in Yugoslavia in the 1950s and then held solo exhibitions in Rome, London, Paris, and Toronto. Once Vangel set up a gallery at his home in Ohrid.
